21 Soothing Earthy Bathroom Ideas To Try This Year
To pull this design scheme together, it’s best to start with an earthy color palette. This will guide you with your choices from the paint you choose to tiles and styling accessories.
An earthy color scheme typically draws from organic matter and the natural world around us, this typically includes;
- Greens – soft sage greens through to earthy olive greens
- Browns
- Creams
- Whites
- Oranges/reds – rusty, terracotta reds and oranges work best
- Grey
- Sometimes blue if you want to lean into a more coastal design trend
- Black when used as an accent – alternatively, you can use dark brown as a defining accent or grey
Keep coming back to this to ensure you’re keeping to the color scheme and you really can’t go wrong in executing a perfect earthy space that is stylish and relaxed.
1.Tropical Design Tiles
If you’re giving your bathroom a complete remodel, you have the opportunity to influence your design with every detail. Tile play in a bathroom is one of my favorite things to play around with in a design, as they can totally transform a space.
I adore these Ca’ Pietra tiles which are part of their Glass House collection, a tropical design in muted peach and sage tones which really set the tone for an earthy scheme to follow.
Best used as an accent wall or in your shower enclosure, I love the addition of the stone style tiles here which grounds the scheme and nods to the natural world.
2. Green Zellige Tiles
Green is an obvious choice to use as a main color in an earthy bathroom. It immediately connects us to nature, and it’s hard to feel bad in the presence of a gorgeous green.
Zellige tiles like featured below are a popular tile trend for 2025, each tile has a slightly different color variation so they engage you visually no matter what angle you look at them in. Prop up a house plant or two to benefit from those biophilic elements.
3. Use Wooden Tones
It’s not surprising that wooden tones are a key characteristic for nailing the earthy design trend brief. Vanity units are an obvious choice for bringing in those wooden elements. It will ground the space and contrast beautifully with an earthy color scheme.
Wooden vanities aren’t the most affordable, but having done it in our own coastal bathroom renovation, I really recommend checking out Facebook marketplace for units that can be upcycled, and have a sink unit fitted on top. It brings a unique element to your bathroom, and your budget will thank you too!
4. Rich Reds and Browns
I couldn’t be more obsessed with this design if I tried, and this is the perfect example to show you how you don’t have to just use green to jump on this signature design trend.
This almost muddy brown is decadent, rich and creates a grounding and earthy feel in the room. It creates the perfect juxtaposition against the patterned wall tiles for an endearing space.
5. Reach For Earthy Green Tones
They say that green is virtually one of the easiest colors on the human eye, and let the below be an example of that!
The vertical stacked green tiles draw the eye up, giving the illusion of a bigger space. The white walls let the green breathe, creating a gorgeous balance. If you’re looking for bathroom fixtures, brass is a no brainer for pairing with green. It adds instant warmth to the color scheme.
6. Perfectly Imperfect Tiles
With a wabi sabi element, those perfectly imperfect tiles that are butted up to one another with minimal grout lines create more interest, in a good way, lending themselves to an earthy bathroom scheme.
Note the subtle but intentional use of red on the mirror and lamp, just a small dose, but it sets itself off perfectly against those gorgeous green tones.
7. Ground The Bathroom With Terracotta Tiles
Terracotta floor tiles are always a good idea! They’re a great way to ground a bathroom and provide definition without having to lean into darker grey tones.
Virtually any color goes with terracotta too, so you can lean into greens, beiges or soft whites to finish off the rest of your scheme.
8. Stony Neutrals
If you like a bathroom with more of a clean aesthetic, take inspiration from the below!
Instead of greens and reds, lean into a modern warm neutral. Oxford Stone by Farrow and Ball brings such warmth with its sandy, beige and mushroom tones, depending on the light the room receives.
Keep things modern by introducing wooden touches, brass elements and grounding the scheme with a few well placed black accents – mirrors and interior hardware such as door handles are a great way to achieve this.
9. Add Definition With Black Accents
Lean into a more modern earthy design aesthetic by adding definition with black elements. This can cross more into the boho and Japandi style aesthetic too.
You don’t need to use black everywhere, I personally find using it on a few well placed accents is enough to pull the design scheme together flawlessly.
10. Layer With Natural Materials
Organic colors and natural materials are key to executing this design trend in a bathroom. Wooden touches are great on bigger items such as vanity units or stools, but don’t forget to introduce other materials such as stone, marble, rattan and seagrass.
Rattan is one of the easiest materials to incorporate with baskets, and they’re super for storing essentials without them being on show.
11. Biophilic Design
2025 is all about biophilic design elements too, and another reason why the earthy design trend is so rapidly on the rise. It makes us feel good, whilst keeping us connected to our natural beings.
Green is a definite nod to this, but don’t forget to layer with real house plants. This is the easiest way to bring natural color to a bathroom, whilst it helps to purify the air.
Opt for plants that love a bit of humidity, spider plants, ferns and peace lily plants will thrive in a warm bathroom.
12. Bring Texture With Wallpaper
Introducing tactile elements to your bathroom will pay dividends for how the space looks, and how you feel within it.
Adding wallpaper instantly lifts a design scheme and it’s effective when used on a half wall like the below image. Lean into earthy colors or tasteful patterns that feel natural or carry a subtle texture.
13. Marble Tones
A beautiful natural material, marble is one of the most luxurious finishes and if your budget allows, marble will stand the test of time and bring a truly stunning effect to a bathroom.
Opt for a grey or black vein, it will bring natural definition to your color scheme.
14. A Twist On A Traditional Earthy Color Palette
Soft, dusty pinks are not a conventional earthy color, but certain pinks can almost be classed as a warm, versatile neutral, which is definitely true of the below bathroom!
Pairing with the white and brown floor tiles helps to nod towards the natural world, with plenty of natural materials in sight to pull this gorgeous scheme together.
15. Microcement Backdrop
Microcement is a popular wall and floor covering choice because of the clean aesthetic. It brings texture and a natural look to a bathroom. There are both pros and downsides to this type of covering though, so it’s important to work out whether it’s right for you before committing to it.
Ground the scheme with wooden tones and black accents.
16. Slat Wood Panelling
A modern way to add an accent wall to a bathroom is by employing slat wood panelling. It brings the best of both worlds to a space, with wooden touches, and typically a black defining line for a touch of modernity.
Introduce biophilic elements and a few touches of green for an on-trend and stylish bathroom, or downstairs toilet.
17. Soft, Terracotta Tiles For Natural Warmth
It’s not about using as many patterns or bold colors that you can in an earthy bathroom, the simpler the scheme the better sometimes.
That’s definitely true of these terracotta tiles. Perfectly formed with a slight color variation that engages the eye. The brass accents bring instant warmth for a simple, yet perfect earthy bathroom.
18. A Feast For The Eyes
If you need anymore persuasion that you don’t need to use green for an earthy color scheme, it’s this!
Leaning into soft terracottas and peach tones, with a wonderful stone tub for that natural element, this bathroom is nothing short of inspiring! The running continuation of different nuances of terracotta and peach create an exciting and cozy space.
19. Green and White
Why reinvent the wheel when a classic green and white combo just works?
White and green are the perfect juxtaposition, balancing each other beautifully. Instead of using a standard bright white, opt for a soft off-white, it feels less clinical and will bring gorgeous warmth. I am a huge fan of Farrow and Ball Wevet, the most perfect white which brings a soft and subtle feel to a room.
20. Mustard Yellows
Just like pink, here’s another less than conventional twist on the standard set of earthy colors, but it works!
Paired with wooden tones and beige tiles, this yellow accent wall pops for all the right reasons.
21. Create Verticality With Shiplap Panelling
Shiplap panelling or tongue and groove panelling is a durable bathroom covering which brings instant verticality to a room.
Lean into a warm neutral on the walls, introducing earthy colors through your vanity and shower enclosure tiles. Earthy bathrooms really can be stylish with the right doses of color and sympathetic accents.
