Coastal inspired design is one of my signature looks when designing an interior. There’s something ultra relaxed, yet stylish about it, and if vacationing by the coast makes you feel good, imagine how good it makes you feel in a home office!

15 Dreamy Coastal Home Office Ideas For A Relaxed Look

1.Transitional Design

This baby blue feature wall is the perfect backdrop for this multi purpose bedroom, home office. It’s the perfect colour for contrasting with vintage pieces for a transitional look that’s both cosy and stylish.

When choosing decor, lean into warm accents such as brass. If you are using blue in the design, it just helps to balance the coolness of blue whilst complementing it with some gorgeous natural warmth.

2. Lean Into Natural Materials

Natural materials are a huge part of coastal design, and there’s plenty of opportunities to incorporate materials such as wood, rattan and seagrass into a home office. Just take note of the below!

Rattan baskets make for the most perfect storage options that are stylish and can hide a multitude of sins, boring paperwork, they’ve got you!

4. Soft, Neutral Tones

When building a colour scheme out for a home office, you don’t have to centre everything around blue. Instead, opt for soft neutral tones such as warm off-whites and creams.

Then introduce blue as an accent colour across decor and textiles, it will pull your coastal design together without feeling cold.

5. Brown Accents For Warmth

Brown accents are one of my favourite colours to pair with a coastal theme, it’s on-trend, warm and rich. Home office chairs are a great way to introduce this as an accent colour into your scheme.ย

Take inspiration from the below, this gorgeous brown leather chair is the perfect addition to this coastal home office. Note the continuation of brown tones through the desk and decor accents for an intentional feeling throughout.

6. Use White For Your Foundation

White does make a great base in your home office, just don’t stick to bright white because it’s easy. Choose a white with a warm yellow, red or pink undertone, it will add a softness to the room and feel super cosy.

Complement it by layering with other hues of white and cream, and adding other accents such as blue and brown tones into the office.

7. Add Panelling For Character

Having an accent wall in a home office is a great way to draw the eye in and add extra character to a room. This type of shaker panelling shown below is on-trend and perfect for modern decor schemes.

Paint it in a slightly different hue for a double drenching look. It adds further interest and a really cosy, cocooning feel.

8. Thoughtful Styling

If you have shelves to fill in your home office, less really is more. You don’t want your office to feel cluttered. Instead add thoughtful, coastal or vintage inspired details to fill the space.

How gorgeous do these desk chairs look under the desk? Two chairs like this work really well in a shared home office that is surrounded by built-ins on either side.

9. Go Green

Blue or white might feel like the obvious choice in a coastal inspired office, but going green is a refreshing alternative that just feels good to be in.

Colour drench the office in green for a cosy feel, then introduce colour through natural materials and decor accessories.

10. Coastal Inspired Built Ins

Built-ins like those pictured in the image below have become a hugely popular way to design a home office, lending plenty of storage opportunities in a stylish way.

Go for a bolder colour on your built-ins such as a blue grey for a nod to the coastal colours. Against the white, you really get to appreciate the rich darkness of this hue.

11. Tongue and Groove Panelling

If your desk is against a wall, T&G panelling is a beautiful way to transform this empty wall space, adding depth and character.

It’s a very popular type of wall covering in coastal inspired properties, and it’s relatively cheap and easy to install.

12. Baby Blue & Terracotta Tones

Blue is one of those colours that’s had a bit of a rap in the past for feeling ‘cold’, but it’s actually a hue that works incredibly well with virtually any colour.

To avoid blue feeling cold, introduce colours that balance the coolness, and bring some natural warmth. Terracotta and browns are a dreamy combo, and it’s so easy to introduce into a few key areas such as on a chair, decor accessories and textiles.

13. Don’t Forget The Fifth Wall!

The ceiling, or as designers like to call the fifth wall is one not to mess around with. Long gone are the decorating days of just painting it white, instead, use it as a place to draw interest!

The juxtaposition of the different covering and colour on the ceiling creates such as coastal inspired room, complete with the brass porthole light. This home office is probably one of my favourites, the combination of pattern and colour is gorgeous!

14. Black Accents For Definition

Despite coastal interiors often being quite light and breezy, they all feature one key component. Black accents.

In small doses, black accents can pull a room together, providing definition and modernity. You only need a few well placed accents, styled beautifully below with the black sliding track on the door, door handles and base of the desk chair.

Do fill your coastal office with plenty of greenery, preferably real! Not only is it good for purifying the air and keeping us in touch with our natural side, but that pop of green is such a welcome colour against a neutral backdrop.

Coastal inspired home offices are relaxing, soothing and beautiful spaces to be in. It’s an everyday thing, so make it an enjoyable one in your home office!
