
Coastal inspired design is one of my signature looks when designing an interior. There’s something ultra relaxed, yet stylish about it, and if vacationing by the coast makes you feel good, imagine how good it makes you feel in a home office!

1.Transitional Design

When building a colour scheme out for a home office, you don’t have to centre everything around blue. Instead, opt for soft neutral tones such as warm off-whites and creams.
Then introduce blue as an accent colour across decor and textiles, it will pull your coastal design together without feeling cold.
5. Brown Accents For Warmth
Brown accents are one of my favourite colours to pair with a coastal theme, it’s on-trend, warm and rich. Home office chairs are a great way to introduce this as an accent colour into your scheme.ย

6. Use White For Your Foundation
White does make a great base in your home office, just don’t stick to bright white because it’s easy. Choose a white with a warm yellow, red or pink undertone, it will add a softness to the room and feel super cosy.
Complement it by layering with other hues of white and cream, and adding other accents such as blue and brown tones into the office.
7. Add Panelling For Character
Having an accent wall in a home office is a great way to draw the eye in and add extra character to a room. This type of shaker panelling shown below is on-trend and perfect for modern decor schemes.
Paint it in a slightly different hue for a double drenching look. It adds further interest and a really cosy, cocooning feel.

If you have shelves to fill in your home office, less really is more. You don’t want your office to feel cluttered. Instead add thoughtful, coastal or vintage inspired details to fill the space.

If your desk is against a wall, T&G panelling is a beautiful way to transform this empty wall space, adding depth and character.
It’s a very popular type of wall covering in coastal inspired properties, and it’s relatively cheap and easy to install.

Blue is one of those colours that’s had a bit of a rap in the past for feeling ‘cold’, but it’s actually a hue that works incredibly well with virtually any colour.
To avoid blue feeling cold, introduce colours that balance the coolness, and bring some natural warmth. Terracotta and browns are a dreamy combo, and it’s so easy to introduce into a few key areas such as on a chair, decor accessories and textiles.
13. Don’t Forget The Fifth Wall!
The ceiling, or as designers like to call the fifth wall is one not to mess around with. Long gone are the decorating days of just painting it white, instead, use it as a place to draw interest!
The juxtaposition of the different covering and colour on the ceiling creates such as coastal inspired room, complete with the brass porthole light. This home office is probably one of my favourites, the combination of pattern and colour is gorgeous!

Despite coastal interiors often being quite light and breezy, they all feature one key component. Black accents.
In small doses, black accents can pull a room together, providing definition and modernity. You only need a few well placed accents, styled beautifully below with the black sliding track on the door, door handles and base of the desk chair.

Do fill your coastal office with plenty of greenery, preferably real! Not only is it good for purifying the air and keeping us in touch with our natural side, but that pop of green is such a welcome colour against a neutral backdrop.
