If there’s one thing I’ve really taken note of as we approach 2025, it’s that we are challenging the norms of tiles in more ways than one.
Tiles ARE the focal feature of the room, we’re digging deep to bring color into the equation, and we’re not asking for permission on how to install them. Innovative ways to layout tiles are on the rise, adding a unique edge to an interior.
These expert approved tile trends are the hottest styles that we will be seeing throughout interiors in 2025.
The Biggest Tile Trends For 2025
The tile trends for the year ahead are a culmination of data from some of the biggest players in the industry that you’ll hear from below, Pinterest reports, what’s happening in fashion, interior design trade shows, and a sprinkling of everything I am seeing more of within the interior world.
There are some gorgeous forecasts for the year ahead that will totally transform how our interiors look and feel.
Bold & Bright Colors Are In
The paint colors and bathroom trends for 2025 are a strong precursor of what is to come, and bold, bright colors are on the way for tile choices too.
We spoke with the experts at Direct Tile Warehouse who shared, “If you’re someone who loves colour, this one’s for you. Say goodbye to neutrals and welcome vibrant hues like sunshine yellows, rich greens, and deep blues. This bold shift, inspired by Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2025, True Joy—a radiant, uplifting yellow—infuses your home with optimism and creativity”.
“After years of neutrals taking centre stage, striking colours and patterns are set for a comeback. Think vibrant shades like terracotta, emerald, and mustard, paired with intricate wallpapers, statement furniture, and textured textiles, bringing energy and personality to your space”.
Grazzie Wilson, Head of Creative at Ca’ Pietra added, “Serious colour. The tones that spark joy and boost your mind and those tiles that grab the eye, hold it, and have you looking back for more. These are the tiles that want to be talked about, causing a stir every single day. They could be tiles with a less-than-usual shape like arabesque or picket tiles; they could be stand out shades like jade green, azure blue or a mega mustard; or they could be unexpected mix and match tiles like pinstripes aside florals that shouldn’t work but really, really do. To end on another quote: “we’re not looking to anyone for permission on how we use colour anymore.” And who are we to argue with Elle Decoration?”.
Putting our tiles front and spotlight is on the bingo card for 2025, and we love to see these bolder, bright colors filtering through to our interiors.
Textured Tiles
There’s a big shift away from flat tiles, and we’re wanting to bring more texture, depth and character to our spaces. I’m not surprised by this, as layering with texture and color has always been such an integral part to styling .
Fluted tiles have risen in popularity and are a fun way to add verticality to a bathroom. These types of tiles can be butted together to look like they are much larger scale tiles, adding a sleek format to a bathroom that works in modern, Japandi and coastal style bathroom schemes.
Or, take the kitkat style tiles below that have become best sellers for many tile brands. Whichever style you go for, textured tiles bring a whole bout of visual interest with them, creating lively schemes that don’t stick to the norm. Tiling a small shower enclosure or tiling half a wall by a sink is a great way to get onboard with this trend.
Bona Fide Artisan Tiles
Our interiors always tell a story, and opting for artisanal pieces, albeit not a ‘new’ trend is something that we continue to be more drawn to. Artisan tiles typically carry imperfect finishes so they give a perfectly, imperfect look. The beauty of these tiles is that they bring much more interest than standard tiles, they engage you visually no matter what angle you look at them in.
Not convinced this style is for you? Grazzie Wilson shares some insightful ideas into using this type of tile in your home this year.
“Talking about things not dating – can you ever imagine appreciating artisanship being a thing the world stops doing? Thought not. Our second trend-to-watch for 2025 taps into the love of all things beautifully crafted but really throws that detail under the microscope to celebrate it properly. In tile speak, that translates as tiles that emulate hand-drawn detailing or that have deliberately imperfect finishes“.
“Bona fide artisan tiles carved from natural stone with tumbled edges and mottled markings from their traditional making process sure, but this trend can still be achieved with ceramic and porcelain tiles. Expect plenty more of our exclusive Artist in Residence collabs in the next twelve months too where hand-illustrated markings from nature to travel-inspired detail abounds”.
Challenging Traditional Tile Play
Innovative ways to layout tiles is rising in popularity, there’s no boundaries when it comes to laying tiles, and opting for your own custom design creates a truly unique look.
Traditionally, tiles haven often been laid in a horizontal fashion. From 2024 into 2025, the vertical stacked tile trend really took off. A great way to add verticality and give the illusion of a bigger space.
Other innovative layout ideas include checkerboard designs with two types of tiles (as shown below), this retro revival of checkerboard adds such a fun twist to a bathroom or downstairs toilet.
Instead of tiling a wall in one type of tile, add a border around the perimeter of the room with a different type of tile, it creates a juxtaposition of the color and positioning of the tile for a unique stamp in a space.
Challenge the idea of a normal tile layout, and think outside of the box for fun tile play ideas that are bang on-trend.
Revival Trend
Interior design works in such a similar way to fashion, everything is cyclical, and trends reemerge constantly. What we’re seeing is the emergence of this ‘revival trend’. Grazzie adds that the revival trend isn’t actually strict on eras and it welcomes any form of hurrah to tiles, inspired by their heyday.
“The point is more about enjoying the finer details that traditional tiles capture and then bringing them bang up to date in more modern homes. Chequerboard floors and those studded with octagons and cabochons? You got it. Age-old Moroccan Zellige and Bejemat designs? Yes ma’am. And reclaimed tiles that cover off industrial revolution warehouse references or that dusted stone look that speaks to uncovered majestic tiling in heritage buildings across the globe? Coming right up”.
We’re digging deep to times gone by to add some fun and retro value to our homes that’s on-trend. It’s one of the best ways to stay ahead of the crowd and create something unique in your interiors that will likely stand the test of time.
Whilst certain tile trends can become outdated quickly, leaning into the revival trend will give you bang for your buck in the long run, just make sure it’s something you love, and not what you’re being influenced by.
Stripes Continue To Rise
Stripes are a total classic in the interior design world, and they’ve been reimagined this year with the way we layout our tiles, and we couldn’t love it more.
When new trends come along, you always wonder how it’s never been done before. This simple way of adding a stripe with two contrasting colors of tiles adds a fun, bold pop of personality to a bathroom, kitchen or small powder room.
There’s plenty of different ways you can use this trend too. Take them horizontal, vertical, or add two lines of each colour for chunkier stripes. If you’re worried about it falling out of fashion in a couple of years time, don’t. Stripes are synonymous with home design, it’s just a new medium that we’ve not seen employed before.
Modern Neutrals
Elevated modern neutrals that make a space feel utterly stylish include these gorgeous new Kelly Hoppen tiles in the image below.
Black and white is forever a classic that feels good in an interior, with reimagined geometric patterns that will ground any room and bring a touch of modernity.
A black accent brings any modern scheme together, and whilst bolder colors are being warmly welcomed in our interiors, we’re still having a moment for warm, classic neutrals such as taupes, buttery whites and browns. These neutrals are the perfect marriage with modern tiles, they lift a scheme yet bring a touch of pizzazz in.
Neutrals don’t have to feel flat and boring in a space, they just need to be layered with the right tiles for a stand out scheme.
New Gloss Finishes
Matte or full gloss finishes have always been the most common tile options for homeowners. Matte tiles can appear boring or clinical if you have them throughout, whereas full gloss tiles have the same feel as full gloss skirting boards, it’s dated.
Semi gloss finishes such as Zellige tiles bring a new medium to our bathroom or kitchen walls. They engage you visually in a different way no matter where you stand, and they bring such a gorgeous bit of interest and softness to a space.
For those that like to keep their color schemes fairly neutral, Zellige tiles are a fab way to pay homage to your design choices whilst still delivering some interior flair. Their imperfect, artisan look adds further edge to the finished look.
There’s a lot to love in this coming year – bold tile choices, unique tile play, modern neutrals and a return back to our roots. Which of these tiles trends are you loving?
