The Broadway musical turned blockbuster, Wicked hits screens today (Friday 22nd November). Even our interiors are tuned into this release and if you’re a fan of Wicked, you might be looking for ways to draw from the dubbed, ‘Wickedcore‘ interior design trend.

Drawing inspiration from the captivating worlds of Oz and the Emerald City, we spoke with textile designer Camira who shared some spellbinding ways to channel the enchanting magic of Wickedcore into home interiors.

How To Inject ‘Wickedcore’ Décor Into Your Interior

Dramatic hues

Wickedcore incorporates eclectic styles, striking colours and whimsical design details to create a bold and beautiful aesthetic that is full of character and appeal.

Camira recommend pairing contrasting colours such as emerald greens with popping pinks, or fiery reds with ocean teals which is the perfect way to add a sense of stage-inspired charm to interiors.

Pink and green deserve to be seen in an interior, so it will still remain a trendy look far after it leaves the big screen. Thinking of taking some paint to the wall? Try Middleton Pink and Danish Lawn from Farrow and Ball.

Good vs evil

Delve into the dynamic between the movie’s iconic characters to lead your Wickedcore makeover.

Camira said, “The dynamic between the movie’s iconic characters, Elphaba and Glinda, adds an extra layer of intrigue and fun to Wickedcore design. While Glinda embodies a soft, and elegant aesthetic, much like the touchable texture of a timeless wool bouclé or a luxurious contemporary velvet, Elphaba exudes a moody, dark vibe, with her signature deep green hue”.

Their contrasting personalities provide more than just a vibrant colour palette, they serve as inspiration for a Wickedcore makeover that transcends the classic pink and green.

Dive deeper into the essence of good versus evil by exploring contrasting textures, tones, and materials to create a truly dynamic and enchanting design scheme. Consider adding textiles with fringe detail, quilted patterns or even embroidered cushions with motifs like stars, moons, or broomsticks.

Glinda’s Glam Touch

Lean into the softer side of Wickedcore by introducing pastel pinks and glittering golds which are reminiscent of Glinda’s bubbly personality.

Camira added, “Bring a sense of wonder to an interior scheme by adding bubbly patterns, shapes and prints through statement accessories and accent furniture pieces. This trend embraces the fierce energy of Elphaba and the sweet, sparkling charm of Glinda—picture rich green curtains that evoke Elphaba’s power, paired with delicate pink sheers that mirror Glinda’s elegance”.

Finishing details like this will bring this look together, use crystal or glass elements like chandeliers or decorative trays to channel her sparkling energy.

Hexagonal and Curved Shapes

Incorporate décor and furniture with hexagonal patterns or curvy, organic shapes to capture the whimsical and unconventional geometry of Wicked.

Rounded armchairs bring softness and comfort, looped rugs add a dynamic and playful touch, and hexagonal tiles evoke a sense of structure with a magical twist.

Finish the look by leaning into a soft pastel pink, or an endearing green for a dramatic look in your interior.

Lush Greenery

Take a nod from the natural world and lean into those gorgeous greens that are reminiscent with Wicked. Integrate lush greenery, like ivy trailing from high shelves or oversized ferns to echo the natural, witchy vibe of Elphaba’s world.

Use emerald-green or black ceramic pots with metallic etched details. They’ll add a beautifully layered approach to your interior, and they are natural air purifiers too.

Dramatic Drapery

Layering with gorgeous textures is key to nailing the ethereal feel of Wickedcore. Textiles iare the best place to start, it will set the tone for the rest of your scheme.

Update your curtains to floor-to-ceiling curtains in dark green (like the below image), black or jewel tones to add drama to your colour scheme. Opt for heavy, theatrical fabrics like velvet with tassels or metallic embroidery.

Take this look through to bedding, throws and cushions for a layered feel that’s cosy, and dramatic. This double sided faux fur throw is the most perfect shade to recreate the look, and so cosy too!
